Most people do not know if they have pre-diabetes.  You could have pre-diabetes if:

•Someone in your family has diabetes

•You weigh more than you should

•You had gestational diabetes (found in pregnant women)

•You had a baby weighing over 9 pounds at birth

•A doctor or nurse has said to you that you have a "touch of sugar" or "pre-diabetes"

You will get free check-ups and other medical tests. 

You may be able to delay or avoid getting diabetes by participating in this program. 

You will help us learn the best ways to prevent diabetes

What is the Rocky Boy Diabetes Prevention Program?

The Rocky Boy Diabetes Prevention Program came about in 2005.  It is funded out of the Indian Health Service Special Diabetes Program for Indians project.  The purpose of the program is to prevent diabetes in Indian communities.

Diabetes is a serious problem for American Indians and Alaska Natives, who suffer from some of the highest rates of diabetes in the world.

Research has shown that it is possible to prevent diabetes through simple lifestyle changes, such as:

•Exercising more

•Eating Health food

•Losing Weight

Who can join the program?

We are looking for people age 18 and older who have a medical condition called 'pre-diabetes' and are interested in reducing their risk for developing diabetes.

You should be willing to participate in regular diabetes prevention education classes and visits.

How can I join the program?

Let the project staff know that you are interested in enrolling in the program.

They will then schedule you for a medical visit to confirm your eligibility.

If you are interested in enrolling int he program, we will further explain the program to you and answer any questions you might have.

Taking part in the program is voluntary
