Below is information regarding the Tip Top Chicken ready-to-eat chicken recall. The products were shipped to Montana institutions through Sysco in Billings. Attached is a spread sheet of establishments that MAY have received the recalled product. All recipients on the list received one of the types of chicken recalled, during the recall period; however, they may not have received chicken that was included in the recalled batches.
The recall is being implemented because the product may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes. Consumption of food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns.
This is especially concerning because several institutions on the list serve these highly susceptible populations.
The appropriate regulatory authority (sanitarians or other appropriate public health official) should:
DECIDE whether to contact food outlets in their area in a timely manner to make management aware of the recall, or remind them of it.
